On 1 April 2019 Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council will be replaced by a single district council called West Suffolk Council. It will entirely replace the borough and district councils but will continue to deliver the same services while finding improved ways of supporting communities, businesses and the local economy. Over the next few weeks you may notice changes to the website, forms, letters and emails as we prepare for the creation of the new council.
An interim technical advice note on space standards for residential development has been developed and approved by councillors to encourage developers to construct properties to a minimum space standard for both private and affordable dwellings. The west Suffolk councils' required minimum standards are in line with the Government’s Nationally Described Space Standards.
It is the intention for west Suffolk councils to include a policy requirement for all new homes to be built to the National Described Space Standards in the next version of our local plan, which is currently being developed. This technical advice note is an interim measure until we go out to public consultation on our new combined West Suffolk Local Plan.
